About Sasquatch Sanctuary
Sasquatch Sanctuary is a one-of-a-kind cordwood masonry log cabin located in beautiful Philipsburg, Montana. Full of character and creativity, the cabin blends rustic charm with modern comfort, featuring custom artwork, handmade furniture, and thoughtful details throughout the home.
Originally built over several years by Dave and Marczi Beaudoin with help from friends and neighbors in the 1980’s-90’s, the cabin has always been a true community creation. In 2018 after Dave’s passing, we purchased the property from the family and began restoring and completing the original vision.
I had just finished a cordwood construction workshop with the master timber frame cordwood builder Rob Roy in the fall of 2017 and had plans to build a cabin /art studio for myself. But these plans changed quickly when I found out that the Sanctuary was available for sale, and switched gears to make the leap of faith on a whole new plan. I had met Dave at the cabin years before in the summer of 1996 when I was working for Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks design and construction at the Washoe fish hatchery in Anaconda. I fell in love with the place, and especially the idea of high labor low cost construction for simple and natural living. The dream was planted, and the opportunity was now in sight…
The problem was, the house was in very, very rough condition and almost un-salvagable after the pipes froze and burst over the winter, leaking water over all the floors that were barely holding up to begin with. The floors were rotten, plumbing toast, electrical all bad, cordwood unfinished and mortar falling apart. But, I was full of ambition and just young and dumb enough to take it on. Was able to get a loan from the local Granite Bank to get started, and began gutting the place in August of 2018. Over the next 12 months, and to date, I have poured so much blood, sweat and even tears into the place that I do at times wonder if it was worth it? So far, the answer is still yes….Especially now that I can share it with other people.
We have spent countless time and investment working to preserve and improve this unique home, transforming it into an evolving living work of art that guests from around the world can now enjoy.
Today, Sasquatch Sanctuary offers a relaxing Montana getaway where guests can experience both the creative spirit of the cabin and the natural beauty of Philipsburg and surrounding areas.
Thank you to all the guests, and all the great folks in Pburg who have helped me along in this journey so far….
Craig
